CHALLENGE

My client, a human services nonprofit offers more than 50 programs serving a wide range of populations across multiple regions. Staff struggled with succinctly describing the agency’s breadth of programming, and couldn't effectively articulate the agency's mission. Without a unified narrative, the organization's credibility was at risk along with the potential to confuse and erode trust with their various audiences including partners, funders, and communities.

APPROACH

I designed and facilitated a strategic messaging workshop for all supervisory staff. The objective was to help staff both understand the importance of aligned messaging and write a narrative that accurately conveyed their brand story and could be adapted for different audiences' unique needs.
we really needed this and you made it easy to understand."

COMPETENCIES APPLIED

  • Change Management
  • Strategic Communications
  • Executive Stakeholder Management
To foster learning, I provided a resource toolkit that incorporated the agency’s mission statement, a graphic of their service model, a sample elevator pitch, and a template to create their own. The session included three structured breakouts for teams to collaborate. I maintained high engagement through interactive techniques such as offering treats and providing participants with a fill-in-the-blank worksheet for them to complete during the workshop.

IMPACT

Participants reported immediate value and usability, with feedback highlighting clarity, accessibility, and practical application. Post-workshop evaluations are ongoing to measure field effectiveness and identify opportunities for reinforcing consistent messaging.
